The Systems of Care Collaborative is a partnership of agencies in Rapid City committed to improving access to youth mental health and addiction services. In 2007 we at JTVF created the collaborative to help high-need families navigate multiple, often disconnected systems like social services, corrections, and mental health providers. Instead of families juggling conflicting requirements, Systems of Care introduced a “one family, one team, one plan” model to provide streamlined, coordinated support.

This collaborative effort brought together local providers including:

  • Abbott House
  • Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention
  • BHSU Counseling Department
  • Catholic Social Services
  • Center for the Prevention of Child Maltreatment
  • Children’s Home Society
  • Great Plains Tribal Leaders Health Board
  • Lifeways
  • Lost & Found
  • Lutheran Social Services
  • National Alliance on Mental Illness Rapid City
  • Oaye Luta Okolakiciye
  • Pennington County Diversion
  • Rapid City Area Schools
  • Rapid City Police Department
  • SD Department of Justice
  • SD Mines Counseling Department
  • SD Unified Judicial System
  • SDSU Counseling Department
  • The Circle
  • United Way of the Black Hills
  • Volunteers of America Northern Rockies
  • Wellfully
  • West River Mental Health
  • Western Preventative Resource Center
  • Western SD Juvenile Services Center
  • Youth & Family Services

Notable achievements include:

    • Inter-agency Training Program: Group members identify and provide trainings needed to equip SOC professionals with the skills necessary to better serve the community.
    • Mental Health Builder Scholarships: As mentioned in our previous blog post, these JTVF Scholarships address staffing gaps and allow more people to excel in the mental health field.
    • Educating Policymakers: The SOC collaborative regularly engages with policymakers to advocate for changes that benefit the sector and the families they support.

JTVF plays a key role, convening these agencies, funding training, and offering Mental Health Builders Scholarships to strengthen the local mental health workforce. By improving access to training and advocating for policy changes, Systems of Care helps ensure that these critical services are available to families in need.

Looking ahead, Systems of Care Collaborative remains focused on ensuring families have better access to high-quality services. By incorporating feedback from youth and continuing to strengthen the local mental health workforce, we aim to create a more effective, accessible system for the families we serve.
