Transportation affects nearly every aspect of daily life. It determines whether someone can get to work, attend a medical appointment, access childcare, or buy groceries. 

For years, the John T. Vucurevich Foundation has heard from nonprofit partners, community leaders, and residents that transportation remains one of the barriers facing individuals and families striving for economic stability. To better understand those challenges, our Research and Reporting Director Lee Strubinger created our latest report: It’s Literally Limiting: How Transportation Barriers Affect Employment and Quality of Life in Rapid City.

The report takes a closer look at Rapid City’s transportation issue through local data, community voices, and insights from organizations working alongside residents every day.

This report is the first in a series exploring barriers that affect economic mobility and quality of life in our community.

We don’t expect one report to answer every question. Our hope is that better information leads to better conversations—and, ultimately, better decisions.
